Young Spy In Istanbul
Taner loathed writing reports for his classes that he was taking at Istanbul Bilgi University. He was a smart young Turk with short black hair and a slender body but he was no genius. Taner found himself struggling with what he once found easy in high school. He especially hated doing them for his history class that was taught by Professor Ibish. The class was told to write a ten page report about the Cold War in two weeks. Taner decided to write about the Cold War in Istanbul.
After his classes were finished, he went to the library to do research about his topic of choice. Several hours later found himself with a few notes and a tall stack of books. As he was checking them out, his stomach reminded him that he had not eaten anything since lunch. His thoughts turned from spies in Istanbul to food. He was so focused on what to eat when he got back to his small apartment that he did not notice a bearded man walking in as he walked out.
Taner and the stranger bumped into each other. His tall stack of books went flying and he mumbled a curse before he bent to retrieve them.
“I’m terribly sorry, the bearded man said as he quickly bent over to pick up a book.
“My fault, the young Turk said. “I wasn’t paying any attention to where I was going.
The pair finally picked up all the fallen books. The stranger introduced himself as Yenar and he offered to buy Taner dinner that night. He looked friendly enough and the young Turk’s stomach rumbled before he agreed. The pair went to a nearby restaurant and they shared a marvelous meal.
During their conversation, Yenar explained that he remembered Professor Ibish when he went to Istanbul Bilgi University five years earlier. The beard made him look older than he really was. Taner found himself liking the older stranger and he asked what he did for a living. Yenar told him that his work was classified and that he could say no more about the subject.
